Staff members of Progressive Dental attended a lecture on “Child Abuse: Recognition and Reporting for Dental Professionals,” on Tuesday, November 25, 2014.

Health care professionals that require a license to practice are considered ‘mandatory reporters’ for child abuse recognition. This course was offered to fill the continuing education requirement that all clinical staff must attend prior to renewing licenses in March. Progressive Dental’s clinical staff is required to complete three hours of DPW-approved training in child abuse recognition and reporting as a condition of licensure.

Dr. Sonny Spera attended the lecture and feels passionate about this responsibility. “Child abuse is something no one likes to talk about. It’s a shameful situation in our Country and we, as health care providers, need to be vigilant.  We have a responsibility and obligation to report any and all signs. Early warning signs come in many different forms and it was great to learn more about the problem and what to be aware of.”

This lecture was sponsored by the Pennsylvania Dental Association and was held at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton, PA.
