What are dentures? Why would I need them?
Prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth, and are supported by surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. Some dentures are removable, but there are many different designs depending on where they are needed. Some rely on bonding, dental implants or clipping onto teeth.
So what’s a dental bridge?
A dental bridge, or a fixed partial-denture, is a prosthesis used to replace missing teeth and is not removable by the patient.
The teeth on both sides of the missing tooth are reduced in size to allow room for the material restoring the missing tooth’s original size and shape in correct alignment with opposing teeth.
Materials used to make the bridge include gold, porcelain fused to metal, or porcelain alone.
When restoring the empty space in a patient’s mouth with a fixed partial denture that will crown the teeth adjacent to the space and bridge the gap between the “fake tooth”. This restoration is called a bridge.
