What is an implant?
Implants create a natural, long lasting healthy option for missing teeth. They offer the safest and strongest support to replace teeth. They actually prevent bone loss and stimulate bone growth.

What does an implant procedure entail?
Dr. Spera and Dr. Blanchard offer implant placement at each of Progressive Dentals’ offices (Binghamton, Endwell, Kirkwood, Montrose and Norwich)

The first appointment would be a consultation and CT scan. The scan enables the Doctor to determine if there is enough bone for implant placement. This scan also helps your dentist determine the size of implant needed and the best place for placement.

At the second appointment, the Doctor would place the implant in the jaw bone. In some cases a connector ( an abutment) is placed on the implant at this appointment. If it isn’t done then, it will be placed after the gum area heals. The patient will return periodically to check on the implant. When it has bonded with the natural jawbone (generally 4 months for lower teeth and 6 months for upper teeth) it is ready to be restored.

When the Doctor feels all necessary healing has taken place the abutment will be placed on the implant. (If it wasn’t done initially.) An impression will be taken and sent to Progressive Dental Lab. The Lab technicians will design and fabricate a crown to fit over the implant.

The final appointment will be when the Doctor places the crown on the implant. The implant crown requires the same care as your natural teeth. Hygiene visits are recommended twice a year.

Please contact any of our five offices to set up a consult with Dr. Spera or Dr. Blanchard to determine if you are an implant candidate!
