Our very own Dr. Spera shares some thoughts about his community, his ways of giving back and hard work. But also talks to us about his love for a good pizza, all music including Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band.
Guilty Pleasure? Ice cream, always ice cream.
Favorite Pizza topping? Sausage and mushroom, but mostly prefer a brick oven margarita pizza with fresh mozzarella cheese
Best thing to do in the community?
Dental- doctors with a heart day,
Personal- Coaching youth basketball. Or volunteering at any church, school or community activity.
Favorite quotes? I have too many but here are a few-
“It’s amazing what can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit”
“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”- John Wooden
“Talent is God-given. Be humble. Fame is man-given. Be grateful. Conceit is self-given. Be careful.”- John Wooden
“You never know how strong your roots are until the wind blows”- Dr. Duanne Schmidt (founder of DWAH day)
Tips for your patients? An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Don’t put off regular dental care, in the end it will save you time, money and discomfort.
Advice to students? Try to figure out yourself first, what excites you, then find what you love to do, and go after that with everything you’ve got.. passion is the key.. “nothing great was ever accomplished without passion”
Favorite TV or Movie? One Flew over the Cuckoo’s nest, Godfather I, II, Forrest Gump
TV- Seinfeld, Everybody loves Raymond, The Office
Cable TV- Breaking Bad, Dexter, The Walking Dead
Last Concert you went to / Favorite type of music? I love all music, all. Last concert was Billy Joel at the Carrier Dome, Zac Brown Band at Dick’s Open
Favorite band? Easy one – Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band
Favorite part of dentistry? Patient interactions… communicating to them, their needs and options. Helping them learn more about themselves and what they can do to improve their overall health. Sometimes just listening to them and their lives, wants and needs.
Dogs or cats? – Dogs for sure. Love Dogs..I’m allergic to dogs but grew up with Ringo Pete and then Max… loved those dogs…
What’s your favorite part of your day? Hard to say. Anything on this side of the grass!! I enjoy the entire day.
Best part of your community? The way people pitch in to help others. when It comes together in great times of need. Dealing with the floods in Conklin, I’ve never seen a community, especially those affected, step up and just pull up their bootstraps and help others.. amazing what I witnessed and experienced… stays with you for life. The way our community supports those less fortunate with the Spartan Garden right here in Endwell, growing food for those with less in the cupboards… amazing to see the kids from the Elementary school mixed with the Seniors from Castle Gardens working together to create something special.. A shared vision to improve our community…
What makes you laugh? Of course my family, especially my aspiring young stand up comedienne daughter, Erica. But when my family is all together we have many many laughs and it’s priceless..
Where would you vacation? Anywhere on a beach.. Jersey Shore, the Caribbean, Gulf coast of Florida, but basically where the sun is warm, my family is with me, we eat together as a family and I can read lots of books and listen to great tunes..…
